Right now in the United States, over 46 million people are
living without health care insurance. Millions more are underinsured
or face the sobering prospects of losing their care as the
costs of medical treatment continue to spiral out of control.
Nurses are understaffed, collective bargaining sessions are
being stalled, seniors are foregoing medications, and ordinary
working people are being thrust into bankruptcy because they
cannot pay for their medical expenses.
Meanwhile, the health care industry is recording record profits,
the likes of which would make even the most ostentatious of
robber barons jealous.
For these reasons, Jobs with Justice and CEJ are working
to make affordable and accessible health care a right for
everyone, not solely the privilege of the wealthy. Together
with our partners in the Western New York Health Care Campaign,
we have been working diligently over the past few years to
raise the visibility and feasibility of health care justice
locally and nationally.
Our message is simple: health care for all! This means working
to cover the uninsured, struggling with workers to keep their
health benefits, and standing with health care workers who
are forced to work in understaffed and unsafe conditions.
CEJ and CWA 1168 developed an educational
workshop entitled 'Understanding the Health Care Web'. Together,
we will be continuing this educational work in 2006 by taking
the presentation to as many audiences as possible. To schedule a workshop please call Allison at 892.5877 or email allison_duwe@hotmail.com.
